The Beast’s Gaze by Quim Gómez is a classic crime novel, very well written and notable for its psychological depth and sustained narrative tension. The work introduces Pasqual Balasch, a corporal of the Mossos d'Esquadra, immersed in the investigation of a young woman’s murder in what appears to be a case of domestic violence. The author’s greatest achievement is the meticulous portrayal of the characters, especially Balasch, who struggles with his own inner demons. The pacing is brisk yet leaves room for introspection, enriching the reading experience.
As for the cover, designed by Àlex Santaló, it perfectly conveys the novel’s dark tone. The illustration, with dynamic strokes and aggressive colors, evokes violence and tension at first glance.
