Now That It’s Late, by Montserrat Galícia

Rating: ★★★★☆
Now That It’s Late, by Montserrat Galícia, is a science-fiction short story collection well worth reading. I especially enjoyed “Parto, parto, ma tu bien mio”, an intense and emotional story that manages to move the reader without falling into sentimentality, and “Taüt”, brief yet highly effective, capable of leaving a lasting impression in just a few pages. “Mrs. Dsha” (which explores the relationship between a human and a Raquian woman) also has an intriguing touch. The final story, “The Gaze of the Other”, deals with an alternate reality that reminded me of The City & the City and the TV series Counterpart. This story breaks the usual rhythm of the book and takes up nearly half of it, but the plot truly requires that space.
Overall, this is a dynamic, entertaining, and quite interesting work.
