Short story
Marck Castelló was born in Barcelona in 1974. He has a law degree and is a specialist in criminal law. For a long time he combined the practice of law with writing and painting.
As an illustrator, he has collaborated on several issues of Catarsi (a science fiction magazine in Catalan), as well as on the short story collection “Montseny amb un somriure” (2020).
«El Mecanisme» (2021) is his first novel.
His way of writing is direct, without superfluous ornamentation, with a simple fut intentionally chosen vocabulary. The style is eclectic, integrating in his work genres as diverse as crime novels, thrillers and fantasy, peppered with a strong dose of humor.
The author writes by hand, with a fountain pen and usually at night, in the small office he has at home. However, he always carries a notebook, which allows him to work, if he finds a moment, elsewhere.

Daniel is a twenty-two-year-old student who suffers from narcolepsy, a neurological disorder that causes him to fall asleep during the day. His life is insubstantial until, one friday night, he is involved in a shootout. As a result of this, Daniel discovers that someone is killing the people who appear on a mysterious list, and both he and Andrea (the other protagonist of the story) appear on it. Both are targets to eliminate.
"They have tried to kill me, they want to rip my teeth out. Be alert. It could happen to you".

Advantages of writing with a fountain pen - The advancement of technology in recent decades has caused more and more people to write, but instead of doing it by hand, we do it through a computer, tablet and mobile phone. Everyday life has relegated handwriting, and even today, when a document has to be signed, it’s often done by digital signature.
Although the use of new technologies has undoubted virtues (such as speed, copying and transmission capacity, among others), we must not ignore that handwriting has some notable advantages.
1. It’s beneficial for our brain. Different studies point out that writing by hand forces you to process information in a different way, increasing the capacity for comprehension and synthesis. It also activates our concentration, facilitates the association of ideas, psychomotricity and memory. In this sense, it’s proven that we remember better what we write by hand.
Manual writing also improves the learning of the little ones, and is useful to prevent cognitive deterioration in the elderly.
2. By requiring greater concentration, it helps to mitigate stress. Putting problems down on paper is often therapeutic, as it helps fix ideas and identify problems. In fact, many psychologists recommend it.
3. The spelling is more correct. Writing by hand is slower and requires more concentration, which also means that we do it with a more appropriate spelling.
4. Writing by hand is a different act for each person, and both the way we write and our calligraphy reflect our personality. On the other hand, typing is monotonous and handwriting is always the same, indistinct from one individual to another.
5. Each piece of writing is unique. Writing by hand is a creative and pleasurable act, and it makes our text different from any other. In addition, something handwritten always has more value: if you send someone a handwritten letter, you are indicating that the person is important to you, that you have invested time in them and that you are giving them something exclusive, that no one else will have.
Writing with a fountain pen enhances the previous points, since the sensation of a nib sliding across the paper isn’t the same as that which we can obtain with the tip of a ballpoint pen. In addition, the fountain pen allows us to personalize our writing even more, since a greater or lesser pressure will cause a different line thickness. The calligraphy will also change depending on the pen we use, the type of nib and the chosen ink. The possibilities are endless!
